Get ready to dig, spike, and dive at the 3rd Annual New Ulm Spikin' in the Street Sand Volleyball Tournament - right in the heart of our historic downtown! On August 1-2, 2025, the streets of New Ulm will be transformed into a thrilling beach volleyball arena, where teams from all over the region will compete for glory and bragging rights. This action-packed event is set to become a summer highlight, bringing together athletes, sports enthusiasts, and community members of all ages. Last year 600 tons of sand (38 dump trucks!) were brought in to transform the street - this year we are expanding into a second block and adding FOUR additional courts! We were only going to add 2, but due to demand (and support from sponsors), we are doubling our footprint from last year!

Volunteers are needed for Friday, Saturday, and Sunday! From sand assistance and event cleanliness to bouncy house observation and team registration tables, there are options! To sign up to volunteer, check back for a signup link closer to the event!

The tournament itself will be on Saturday only but come down on Friday evening for the unique opportunity of hanging out in the sand... in the middle of downtown.

Friday, Aug 1st - Pre-Party! Come and hang out in the sand!
Rec on the Go, Yard Games, bounce house, food trucks (see below), music, fun have all been a part of this event in the past.  Check back closer to the event for the 2025 schedule.


Saturday, Aug 2 - Spikin' in the Street Downtown Sand Volleyball
Teams interested in playing should check back for registration details closer to the event.  Deadline for registration will be early July (number of teams allowed to register will be limited!) Games will begin at 7am and end around 10:30 or 11pm.

Food Trucks! There are several restaurants, cafes, and dining options within blocks of the tournament. Stop in for a break or to grab some quick to-go food. In addition, there will food vendors in the street:

Smoking section: Please be respectful of the large number of people (and kids and families) and head outside of the event area or to the designated smoking section in the alley by B&L Bar.
 
Handicap access: we will have reserved sidewalk area outside of the Chamber office for handicap seating. But note that the sidewalks need to be accessible for wheelchairs throughout the 2-block space, so please be sure the sidewalks leave a path open.
 
Business access: Note that many of our businesses are open during the tournament! Please be sure all entryways remain clear of crowds so their clients/customers can access their businesses. 

The feat of bringing tons of sand downtown is quite the effort! HUGE shout-out our event committee and all of the businesses who have stepped up to help make this happen! Spikin' in the Street is privately funded (no tax-payer dollars) by our amazing local businesses and organized by volunteers and the Chamber of Commerce. This event could not happen without their support.
