Get ready to dig, spike, and dive at the 4th Annual New Ulm Spikin' in the Street Sand Volleyball Tournament - right in the heart of our historic downtown! On July 31-August 1, 2026, the streets of New Ulm will be transformed into a thrilling beach volleyball arena, where teams from all over the region will compete for glory and bragging rights (and cash pay-outs). This action-packed event has become a summer highlight, bringing together athletes, sports enthusiasts, and community members of all ages. The first year of this event was held in one block (4 courts), but due to high demand - we expanded this to 2 blocks and 8 courts in the second and third years! We're following that same plan again this year and bringing in 1300 TONS of sand (about 70 dump trucks!) to transform the streets. 

Registration is FULL for all divisions! If you would like to be added to the waitlist please email chamber@newulm.com with your preferred division. We encourage interested teams to join the waitlist, as it helps us gauge demand and evaluate future opportunities. Waitlisted teams will also receive a direct email when registration opens for the 2027 tournament.

When you visit the site:

• My Schedule ? Search by your team name or captain's name to view your personalized pool play schedule. Once bracket play is set, your first bracket match will also appear here.
• Teams ? View all registered teams organized by division.
• Brackets ? Follow pool standings and watch the tournament brackets update live as matches are completed throughout the weekend.

Tournament Schedule:

• 6-9pm - Division C Pool Play

• 7-10am - Division B Pool Play
• 10-11:30am - Rec Division Pool Play
• 11:30am-1:10pm - Division A Pool Play

• A Division - 4:30pm
• B Division - 2:50pm
• C Division - 11:30am
• Rec Division - 1:10pm

• 4 Divisions: A, B, C, REC
• Pool play followed by a single elimination tournament
• Teams must be comprised of 3 men and 3 women with alternate rotation/serving order
  • If a team is short a man, they may play with 4 women and 2 men, but one woman must be designated as the third man and rotations must still be followed
• Divisions may be combined based on number of teams in each division
• Teams bring their own volleyballs and agree on a game ball

• Bring lawn chairs
• No coolers (food and beverages will be available for purchase)
• Rain or shine event

Friday, July 31st - Beach Party & Tournament Start! Come and hang out in the sand!
New this year! Division C will be starting their Pool play on Friday Night around 6pm! Food trucks (see list below), music, beverages, sand and fun for the whole family!! Join us Friday evening from 5pm-11pm. 

Continuing for its 2nd year Rolling Thunder Wrestling will be hosting their Downtown Throwdown starting at 6pm! Click here for more information!

Saturday, Aug 1st - Spikin' in the Street Downtown Sand Volleyball
Games will begin at 7am and end around 10:30 or 11pm. 

Please join us! 

• Spectators welcome! Don't forget to bring your lawn chair! No coolers allowed (food and beverage available for purchase on site).

Food Trucks! There are several restaurants, cafes, and dining options within blocks of the tournament. Stop in for a break or to grab some quick to-go food. In addition, there will food vendors in the street:

Beverages: our downtown bars & restaurants located in the festival area have extended their liquor license into the street for this event. What does this mean? Stop into these establishments and grab a beverage (alcoholic or non) and bring it out into street! No glass allowed and alcoholic beverages need to stay within the festival area. Please support our local businesses and do NOT bring in outside food or beverages.

Smoking section: Please be respectful of the large number of people (and kids and families) and head outside of the event area or to the designated smoking section in the alley by B&L Bar.
 
Business access: Note that many of our businesses are open during the tournament! Please be sure all entryways remain clear of crowds so their clients/customers can access their businesses. 

The feat of bringing tons of sand downtown is quite the effort! HUGE shout-out our event committee and all of the businesses who have stepped up to help make this happen! Spikin' in the Street is privately funded (no tax-payer dollars) by our amazing local businesses and organized by volunteers and the Chamber of Commerce. This event could not happen without their support.
