What is the Memory Lab? CAST Educational Program
Join us for a presentation on the Memory Lab at the New Ulm Public Library! Making memories is nothing new, and the ability to save those memories and preserve them for future generations is something that libraries are experts in. The Memory Lab, a service offered by the New Ulm Public Library, is a do-it-yourself space where the public can come in and use state-of-the-art and rare equipment provided by the library to work on personal archiving projects. It is part of the nationwide Memory Lab Network, which patrons can access to convert the following to digital files and then edit those digital files: Audio cassettes; Betamax tapes; Documents; Phonographs; Photographs; Slides; Negatives; VHS tapes. With a grant recently received by the library, the memory lab will be enhanced, with additional formats added for preservation. These include 8mm film, Hi8 tape, beta tape, and oral recording devices among others. The Memory Lab enables you to preserve those precious memories for yourself and future generations. LeRoy Harris will walk us through the process of using the Memory Lab and answer our questions. Trip Details: This program is free and open to the public. No pre-registration needed. We will meet at the New Ulm Public Library (17 North Broadway Street, New Ulm) by the main desk at 1:20pm. Provided by the CAST Senior Center, this programming was developed to reach a wide audience of senior citizens, providing a variety of interesting subjects via in-person presentations and experiences. Scheduled year-round, we host programs at the CAST Senior Center, but also travel to area libraries, museums, places of interest, and other Senior/Community Centers in our area to introduce Seniors to the many program opportunities that are available. Our programs are open to the public and there are no membership dues. Unless noted, the programs are provided free and no preregistration is required. Carpooling is available for out-of-town trips. Check out our program schedule every month and join us for our next event. We look forward to seeing you!
