Update on Scams in New Ulm/CAST Educational Program
Presented by Police Chief Dave Borchert. City of New Ulm and Brown County residents are literally losing hundreds of thousands of dollars every month to scammers! Police Chief Borchert will discuss what’s been happening, who is being targeted, and how to protect yourself from becoming a victim of scam. Recent local scams include fake Chamber Dollars being passed, being contacted about a warrant for your arrest, taxes, etc. and the only solution given is to pay via “CoinFlip”, often including a QR code for easy payment, and a woman who received a phone message stating she should call them back with her social security number or she will be arrested because she is wanted in another state. Don’t miss this informative program! Hosted by the CAST Senior Center, CAST Educational Programs were developed to reach a wide audience of senior citizens, providing a variety of interesting subjects via in-person presentations and experiences. Scheduled year-round, we host programs at the CAST Senior Center, but also travel to area libraries, museums, places of interest, and other Senior/Community Centers in our area to introduce Seniors to the many program opportunities that are available. Our programs are open to the public and there are no membership dues. Unless noted, the programs are provided free and no preregistration is required. Carpooling is available for out-of-town trips. Check out our program schedule every month and join us for our next event. We look forward to seeing you!
