The Extraordinary Equiano - CAST Virtual Program
Equiano was briefly introduced to us in our September program, “Five Things You Probably Never Knew About Benjamin Franklin," and we wanted to learn more about this fascinating man. This documentary covers Equiano’s life and the contributions he made. The story of Olaudah Equiano, a black slave who emerged from the horrors of the African holocaust to become an English gentleman, marry a white woman and write one of the most influential books of his generation - his autobiography. His book, “The Interesting Narrative of the Life of Olaudah Equiano, the African” became a key text in the abolition movement as it confronted its audience directly with the grim reality of the slave trade. This program is free and open to the public. No pre-registration needed. Provided by the CAST Senior Center, our Virtual Programs provide an endless variety of interesting subjects. Our Virtual Programs take us across the country, experiencing and learning about places and people which we wouldn’t otherwise have the opportunity to experience.
