“The Allegheny Arsenal Explosion” CAST Documentary Program
As a follow up to our program on “Women in the Civil War”, shown on May 12, this discussion documentary covers the Allegheny Arsenal explosion. In 1862 the Allegheny Arsenal, one of the nation's largest ammunition factories, exploded. Hundreds of young women perished in the flames, and it stands as the worst civilian disaster of the entire Civil War. As the nation reeled at the horror of the event, it was quickly forgotten when the terrible battle of Antietam began just one day later. Joining us this episode is Senator John Heinz History Center CEO and President Andy Masich and author Jim Wudarczyk. Provided by YouTube/Historian Brady Crytzer Official. Run time 54 minutes. Picture courtesy of history.net. Hosted by the CAST Senior Center, our Documentary Programs provide an endless variety of interesting subjects in a prerecorded, professional film format.
