“Stories of America’s National Parks: Saving the Desert in Death Valley and White Sands: A Landscape of Warfare” CAST Educational Program
Saving the Desert in Death Valley Return above ground to the harsh deserts of Death Valley National Park, which at 3.4 million acres is the largest national park in the continental United States. In addition to its size, the park is known for its extreme weather conditions and its dark sky views at night. Delve into this wonder of contradictions. White Sands: A Landscape of Warfare Your course wraps up with a look at White Sands National Park. Located amid desert dunes in New Mexico, the history of White Sands ranges from Indigenous hunting and gathering to the US military’s atomic bomb tests in the 1940s—a testament to the complexity of interaction between human and natural worlds. Provided by Great Courses Plus. Run time: 60 minutes. Hosted by the CAST Senior Center, CAST Educational Programs were developed to reach a wide audience of senior citizens, providing a variety of interesting subjects via in-person presentations and experiences. Scheduled year-round, we host programs at the CAST Senior Center, but also travel to area libraries, museums, places of interest, and other Senior/Community Centers in our area to introduce Seniors to the many program opportunities that are available. Our programs are open to the public and there are no membership dues. Unless noted, the programs are provided free, and no preregistration is required. Carpooling is available for out-of-town trips. Check out our program schedule every month and join us for our next event. We look forward to seeing you!
