MN Valley Civil War Round Table
New Ulm Public Library Director Kris Wiley will present “Grant's Victory at Vicksburg” at the Minnesota Valley Civil War Round Table on Tuesday, December 19 at 6:30 p.m. The siege of Vicksburg, Miss., began in earnest in spring 1863 under the direction of Gen. Ulysses S. Grant, whose troops enclosed Confederate soldiers inside the Mississippi River town. A weeks-long siege ended with Confederate Lt. Gen. John C. Pemberton’s surrender on July 4, giving the Union control of the Mississippi River. Wiley will discuss the importance of Grant’s victory, and she will share photographs from her recent trip to Vicksburg National Military Park. The MN Valley Civil War Round Table series is presented the third Tuesday of each month at 6:30 p.m. at New Ulm Public Library and is free and open to the public.
