Internet Safety and Protecting Your Privacy Online Series
Join us Monday mornings for “Internet Safety and Protecting Your Privacy Online”. This five-part series is brought to you by New Ulm Community Education, hosted by the CAST Senior Center, and presented by LeRoy Harris, Programming & Technology Services Librarian for the New Ulm Public Library. Fee is $35 per person. Pre-registration through Community Ed is required on their website: Home - New Ulm Public School (eleyo.com) or call 507-233-8300. Series Overview: Technology seems to be just about everywhere. More and more businesses, organizations, and government agencies are directing people to visit their website or fill out forms online. Cyber crime is also growing. According to the FBI, cyber crime cases grew by nearly 70% in 2020. Not only that, social media from Facebook to Twitter to Tik Tok have made our world more shareable and less private. But what happens to all of that information? Where is it stored and for how long? Who can access it? How can you keep something really private or safe? How can you tell if that email, message, or website is really what it claims to be? You don’t have to be in the dark! This course will provide you with the knowledge and skills to decide how much to share and how to stay safe using the internet. Participants are encouraged to bring their mobile or laptop devices to participate in a hands-on way for class.
