"Impact of Invasive Species" CAST Educational Program

In January, Jordy Veit gave an excellent presentation in January on “How Trees Can Affect Climate Change”. He’s back with a new program, “The Impact of Invasive Species”. Join us as Jordy shares how invasive species can be found in many places around the world, including right there in New Ulm! Invasive species cost us money, impact the environment, human health in some cases and have many more effects.  During this presentation we will take a closer look at what invasive species are including maps and examples of some invasive species here in New Ulm. We will also talk about how invasive species have arrived here and how they spread along with what each of us can do to reduce and prevent the spread and effects of invasive species. Lastly, we will talk about how climate change will impact the future of invasive species and their spread.  Mr. Veit has a Master of Science in Environmental Sciences, is a Certified Tree Inspector in Minnesota and an adjunct instructor.  He have done research on invasives pieces and many presentations on invasive species, climate change, and trees. Hosted by the CAST Senior Center, CAST Educational Programs were developed to reach a wide audience of senior citizens, providing a variety of interesting subjects via in-person presentations and experiences. Scheduled year-round, we host programs at the CAST Senior Center, but also travel to area libraries, museums, places of interest, and other Senior/Community Centers in our area to introduce Seniors to the many program opportunities that are available. Our programs are open to the public and there are no membership dues. Unless noted, the programs are provided free and no preregistration is required. Carpooling is available for out-of-town trips.
