Brown County Human Services guidelines suggest that children ages 8-10 can stay home alone for up to three hours at a time and that children ages 11-13 can stay home alone up to twelve hours. This class is for students in grades 4-6 and builds upon the parent/child level 1 class. Staying home alone for the first time is an opportunity eagerly anticipated by most kids; yet with opportunity comes responsibility. The class will cover the basics of staying home alone including but not limited to: appliance safety, responsibility, house rules, first aid, storm warnings, fire escape plans, and more. This is an interactive class where students have the opportunity to ask questions as they arise. Parents will be able to have follow-up conversations with their students by reviewing take-home materials together after class.
