Harkin Store
Sheep-Wool-Quilts
Alexander Harkin come to Minnesota and West Newton to raise sheep on the hillside. He did that
and was noted as having very good quality wool. We have a program to honor the wool industry.
Come and see the displays of the wool and information about wool. There will be a display of
spinning wheels, carders and wool items and quilts, new and old.
The gift shop is open the same hours as the store and has a discount sale on items. The store is
open Friday, Saturday and Sunday in October from 10 to 5 pm with programs on Sunday afternoons
from 1 to 4 pm. We are open MEA week on Friday, Saturday and Sunday until October 19th.

The 1870's store is located nine miles northwest of New Ulm on Nicollet County Road 21, or the
bottom road, or nine miles east of Fort Ridgely. It is operated by Nicollet County Historical Society,
