The first of ten courses in the 2021 Fall Term of CASTLE Lifelong Learning, a program of the CAST Senior Center. We kick off the Fall Term with a visit to The Backerei in downtown New Ulm. The Backerei itself dates all the way back to the 1930s, over 90 years ago. Once known as Tillman’s, then Rose’s Bakery, and Dave’s Bakery, it became The Backerei & Coffee Shop in 1994. The building itself was built in the 1980’s by Tillman, and a lot of the same equipment is still in use (as well as original Tillman recipes). Purchased by Craig and Amanda Hacker in 2019, the tradition of wonderful doughnuts, pastries, cookies, breads and more continues today. We’ll tour the bakery and hear about the history and future of New Ulm’s beloved Backerei. Enrollment in the CASTLE Lifelong Learning program is $100 for one year, which covers a minimum of 18 different courses over Fall, Winter and Spring Terms. Courses include art, entertainment, health/wellness, history, literature, local interests, music, science, and more. Attendance of all courses is not required. For more information, contact the CAST Senior Center.
