CAST/Library Movie Matinee "Treasure of the Sierra Madre"

Set in 1925, the film follows Fred C. Dobbs and Bob Curtin, two impoverished Americans in Tampico, Mexico, who are desperate for work. After being cheated out of their wages by a corrupt contractor, they meet Howard, a seasoned prospector who shares tales of gold hidden ion the Sierra madre mountains. Inspired by Howard’s stories, they decide to join him on a gold prospecting expedition. Ultimately, the quest for gold turns into a struggle for survival with tragic consequences. The film ends with a powerful commentary on nature of wealth and the human spirit, solidifying its status as a classic in American cinema. It is not only a gripping adventure but also a profound exploration of the effects of greed and the fragility of human relationships. About our Movie Matinees: The CAST Senior Center is partnering with the New Ulm Public Library to bring you Movie Matinees. Held in the Meeting Room in the lower level of the New Ulm Public Library, we will present a different movie each Friday afternoon at 1pm. Our movies are free, and everyone is welcome to attend.
