“The Mummy” (1932) Friday, October 3 at 1pm at the New Ulm Public Library/Downstairs Meeting Room The film begins in 1921, when an archaeological expedition led by Sir Joseph Whemple discovers the mummy of Imhotep, an ancient Egyptian high priest who was buried alive for sacrilege. Along with the mummy, they find the Scroll of Thoth, a magical artifact capable of bringing the dead back to life. When one of the archaeologists, Ralph Norton, reads the scroll aloud, he inadvertently resurrects Imhotep, who escapes and begins his quest to find his long-lost love, Ankh-es-en-amon, whom he believes has been reincarnated in the modern world. Ten years later, Imhotep, now disguised as a modern Egyptian named Ardath Bey, seeks out Helen Grosvenor, a young woman who is the reincarnation of Ankh-es-en-amon. As he uses his mystical powers to manipulate and control those around him, he becomes increasingly desperate to reclaim his lost love, leading to tragic consequences for those who stand in his way.
