The film follows three WWII veterans, Fred, Al, and Homer, as they return to their small-town home of Boone City after the war. Each man faces unique challenges in adjusting to civilian life. As the men navigate their relationships and personal struggles, they form a bind and support each other through their reintegration into societal change and the personal costs pf war. Winner of six Academy Awards, including Best Picture, Best Director, Best Actor, Best Supporting Actor, Best Film Editing, Best Adapted Screenplay and Best Original Score. It was also one of the first films selected for preservation in the United States National Film Registry for being “culturally, historically, or aesthetically” significant.
