Movie Overview: The Steel Trap (1952) is a film noir directed by Andrew L. Stone, featuring Joesph Cotton as Jim Osbourne, an assistant bank manager who becomes obsesses with the idea of stealing a million dollars from his bank and fleeing to Brazil, a country without extradition laws. Jim devises and executes the heist on a Friday night, but complications arise when he misses a connection in New Orleans, leading to a tense confrontation with his wife, Laurie (Teresa Wright), who discovers the truth about his trip to Brazil. The film explores themes of temptation, deception, and the consequences of mortal failings in a post-war America.
