Set in 1787, the film follows the journey of the HMS Bounty, commanded by the brutal Captain William Bligh, portrayed by Charles Laughton. The first officer, Fletcher Christian, played by Clark Gable, is compassionate towards the crew and becomes increasingly disillusioned with Bligh’s harsh leadership style. His tyrannical rule leads to widespread resentment among the crew and creates a culture of fear on board the ship. After six pleasant months docked in Tahiti, Christian leads the crew to mutiny on the homeward voyage. Midshipman Rogar Byam takes no part in the mutiny, but he must defend himself against charges that he supported Christian. A gripping drama based on real events.
