CAST/Library Movie Matinee "Key Largo"
The film follows Frank McCloud, a WWII Veteran who visits the Hotel Largo in Key Largo, Florida, to pay his respects to the family of a fallen comrade, George Temple. The hotel is managed by George’s widow, Nora, and her wheelchair-bound father-in-law, James. As Frank arrives, he discovers that the hotel is occupied by a group if gangsters led by the notorious mobster Johnny Rocco, who is hiding out there during an approaching hurricane. As the storm intensifies, tensions rise between the gangsters and the hotel staff. Frank, initially reluctant to act due to his disillusionment from the war, finds himself compelled to protect Nora and James from Rocco’s brutality. the film culminates in a dramatic confrontation as Frank decides to take a stand against the gangsters, leading to a successful climax at sea. About our Movie Matinees: The CAST Senior Center is partnering with the New Ulm Public Library to bring you Movie Matinees. Held in the Meeting Room in the lower level of the New Ulm Public Library, we will present a different movie each Friday afternoon at 1pm. Our movies are free, and everyone is welcome to attend. No preregistration needed. Made possible by the Optimist Club of New Ulm. You’re welcome to bring your own refreshments. Free hearing devices compatible with the sound system are available to use.
