CAST/Library Movie Matinee: “Christmas Vacation” (1989)
Well-meaning Clark Griswold wants to have “a good old-fashioned, family Christmas”, including having the perfect live tree and putting 20,000 twinkling lights (that don’t light up) on the house. A houseful of relatives arrives to share the holidays, with surprise guests Uncle Eddy, his wife Katherine, their kids and dog, Snots in their RV. Chaos unfolds as Christmas eve comes and Clark doesn’t receive his Christmas bonus to pay for the pool he wants to put in, culminating in a kidnapping and Clark spewing a raging diatribe that ends with needing Tylenol. Full of quotable lines, sight gags (the Marty Moose eggnog glasses), and tortured yuppy, uptight neighbors Todd and Margo, this movie is fun and funny - a holiday classic! About our Movie Matinees: The CAST Senior Center is partnering with the New Ulm Public Library to bring you Movie Matinees. Held in the Meeting Room in the lower level of the New Ulm Public Library, we will present a different movie each Friday afternoon at 1pm. Our movies are free, and everyone is welcome to attend. No preregistration needed. Made possible by the Optimist Club of New Ulm. You’re welcome to bring your own refreshments. Free hearing devices compatible with the sound system are available to use. And you don’t have to be a “senior” to attend! See some old favorites and discover some new ones. Join us for a fun afternoon of classic cinema!
