NUMAS Haus To Host Annual Fundraiser Event

8.30.24 - New Ulm, MN

NUMAS Haus has been providing shelter and support services to homeless women and their children primarily in the Brown County, Minnesota area for almost a decade.

Since opening its doors in August of 2016, NUMAS Haus has been dedicated to rehabilitating displaced women and children to help lessen the state of homelessness in the area. NUMAS Haus has assisted over 182 women and children, many of whom are still thriving and contributing to the communities in which they now reside. NUMAS Haus has shown nearly a 70% success rate with residents who have completed the program and secured stable housing.

When a new family is welcomed to NUMAS Haus, they are provided with essentials. NUMAS Haus offers a clean and safe environment to help facilitate immediate change and growth. Historically there has been a waitlist of at least 1 individual, peaking in the summer of 2023 with over 10 women (with or without children) waiting for shelter.

“Having to decide which family will receive shelter and which family will remain living in a car is a choice we, as a community, should never have to make,” stated Nicole Schmiesing, NUMAS Haus Executive Director

During the 90-day program at NUMAS Haus, residents receive an individualized case plan and one-on-one support from a case manager. Goals may include: problem-solving and time management skills, connecting with community resources for education, employment, child care, and housing, and moving toward independence. After residents transition into their own housing, they continue case management services for up to two years to support maintaining long-term housing stability and independent living beyond NUMAS Haus.

As we continue to serve a growing number of homeless women and children, covering expenses has become increasingly challenging. Your support would help us to maintain and enhance the vital services we provide and ensure that we can continue our mission effectively. We ask that you join us and truly make a difference in the lives of people right here in our communities.  Together, we can give hope and make a significant difference in the lives of those we serve.

NUMAS Haus invites you to support this mission by attending the annual fundraiser on Thursday, September 26th. The event will open at 5 pm with a social hour and silent auction, followed by dinner and dessert. The evening will include a past resident speaker story, live auction and music by Andrea Lyn. Register to attend at the New Ulm Chamber or register online, or become a sponsor or donate at www.numashaus.org.
