On a dusty battlefield in Montana lies a 125-year-old mystery. Legend says one of the greatest acts of military bravery took place here when George Armstrong Custer made his heroic last stand. And yet because no soldiers with Custer survived no one really knows what happened. Now, for the first time, archaeologists are unraveling the secrets of Custer's last stand. They are treating the battlefield like a crime scene using the tools of forensic science. Bullets and cartridges reveal what kind of firepower was used on the battlefield, bones tell them who these soldiers were and how they suffered. Now after almost two decades of research, these forensic detectives believe they know what really happened at the last stand. Evidence long hidden on the battlefield may tell a story very different from the history books as science re-examines this infamous battle between the United States Army and Sioux and Cheyenne warriors. A recent investigation by a leading battlefield archaeologist proposes a provocative new theory of what may have happened during those desperate moments of the battle known as “Custer's Last Stand.” Provided by History Biography.
