"The True Story of the Siege of Fort William Henry" CAST Documentary Program
Discover the incredible true story behind the Siege of Fort William Henry, the historic battle that inspired "Last of the Mohicans." This documentary brings to life the events of the French and Indian War, where the French, aided by their Indian allies, besieged the British fort at the southern end of Lake George. During the French and Indian War, Fort William Henry, built in 1755, was besieged by the French and their Indian allies for six days. The fort was strategically located to oppose French forts at the southern end of Lake Champlain. The siege ended in a brutal massacre and has been the subject of several motion pictures. This documentary provides an overview of the war and recounts the events leading up to the siege from the perspectives of men on both sides. Provided by History Documentary/Erik K. Swanson. This program ties into this week’s Movie Matinee, “Last of the Mohicans”, being shown at 1pm on Friday, September 5 in the Meeting Room at the New Ulm Public Library.
