We all experience loss. How do we cope with our grief when someone we love dies? The New Ulm Public Library and Community Ed are partnering for a series of presentations called Hope and Healing in Grief to bring awareness, resources, and hope to those grieving and people who care about them. Our first presentation will be on Monday, March 20 at 6:30 PM at the library and is titled “Early Grief When a Child Dies”. Darlene Nelson, a founding member of the local chapter of Compassionate Friends organization, will lead this first presentation. A nurse for 32 years at New Ulm Medical Center, Darlene was twice nominated for national awards for her work with bereaved families. Having had her oldest son die when he was 20, she will be speaking from personal experience about the early stages of grief, how bereaved families can have hope, and how friends and loved ones of those grieving can support them on their grief journey. Darlene says, "I am not a counselor. My talk will be on common experiences of grief when a child dies. A child can be any age, miscarriage to adult. If we gave them life they are our child forever." We hope you will join us for this important, and informative presentation.
