Bruno, an eight-year-old boy from Berlin, Germany, moves with his family to a countryside home outside a concentration camp when his father, an SS Commander, is put in charge of overseeing the camp. Bruno is very naïve and does not realize the reality that surrounds him. Bruno maintains his innocence as his sister becomes more embedded in the Nazi culture. Bruno goes exploring and befriends a young boy his own age who lives in the concentration camp, not realizing what that means. Their friendship evolves and Bruno eventually breaks into the concentration camp to help Shmuel find his father. As they move around the camp, they end up in a hut that is next in line for the gas chamber. When Bruno’s family realizes he’s missing and that he’s gone to the camp, they race against time to find their son. Will they find Bruno in time?
