BCHS Lunch & A Bite "Attack Shetek"
Brown County Historical Society's "Lunch and a Bite of History"
In the summer of 1862, families living in the Lake Shetek settlement experienced a nightmare of violence and loss as part of what later became known as the Dakota Uprising. Drawing upon lifetime immersion in his personal family story, a descendant of the survivors weaves the tale of the dispersed community, the first warnings of an attack, a futile defensive position, death, capture, and escape.
