Author Spotlight- Meet and greet with local author Nancy Silcox at Turner Hall.
Meet author Nancy Silcox in person at Turner Hall. This is free and open to the public. Nancy Noyes Silcox grew up in New Ulm and graduated from New Ulm High School. As a librarian for more than 40 years, she has lived and worked with young readers and researchers in international schools in Egypt, Jordan. Belgium, Ukraine, and public schools and libraries in Virginia. Nancy and her husband Steve were the first couple from New Ulm to join the Peace Corps and were teachers in Guyana, South America. Nancy is the author of " A Place Called Home" and is currently working on a nonfiction account about her grandmother, a Swedish servant for a wealthy family in Superior Wisconsin. She married a man who became a Minnesota State Senator. Her life began in 1898 and spanned the early 1900s including World War 1, the 1918 Flu Epidemic and World War 2. Nancy will speak and answer questions about her book, her research and writing process and the challenges and rewards of using primary sources commonly used by genealogists.
