A Welcome Tragedy: Factors that Led to the U.S.-Dakota Conflict of 1862 with Colin Mustful
Colin Mustful will present “A Welcome Tragedy: Factors that Led to the U.S.-Dakota Conflict of 1862” at New Ulm Public Library on Wednesday, August 21 at 12 p.m. Mustful argues that the U.S. - Dakota War of 1862 and its aftermath were the results of an Indian System that fostered neglect, nourished corruption, and intentionally ignored all signs that war was imminent. Mustful is a Minnesota historian and author who has published numerous novels, essays, and resources related to the U.S.-Dakota War of 1862. This program is part of a week of events commemorating the U.S.-Dakota War of 1862, sponsored in partnership by New Ulm Public Library and Brown County Historical Society.
