EVENT SPEAKER
Cory Genelin is a partner in the firm of Gislason & Hunter, working primarily out of the firm’s Mankato office. Cory is the Chair of Gislason & Hunter’s Employment, Labor, and Benefits Practice Group. Cory is currently the Legislative Chair of the Southern Minnesota Area Human Resources Association.

A professional problem solver, Cory combines knowledge of the law with common sense and leadership experience. Cory’s practice includes civil litigation, employment law, banking law, and business law.

Cory serves as employment counsel for many businesses in southern Minnesota. While no stranger to litigation, Cory excels at producing policies, handbooks, and checklists designed to keep problems from ever starting. More importantly, Cory provides his clients with the training they need to implement these policies. He is also available and responsive when
employment decisions need to be made on short notice.

When counseling employers and HR managers, Cory draws on his years of leadership experience in the United States Air Force. As a decorated commander with combat experience, he understands that mission accomplishment requires consistent, fair, and thoughtful discipline. Now
serving as a Staff Judge Advocate with the Air National Guard, Cory acts as in-house counsel to a flying Wing with over a thousand employees, many of which are unionized. Cory brings this in-house counsel perspective to his civilian practice; he advises clients not as an outsider, but as a team member and leader.

Cory’s employment law counseling is built on his courtroom experience. He has successfully litigated over a hundred wage and hour, retaliation, harassment, unemployment, non-compete, and workers’ compensation cases. Having represented both employers and employees, he is able to see a problem from all angles and anticipate the other side’s moves.

In his spare time Cory enjoys coaching youth wrestling and football, fishing, hunting, gardening and spending time with his wife and four children.

Aug 19 Historic Kiesling House - Beekeeping with Marjean Hendrycks
Marjean Hendrycks, a commercial beekeeper since 1988, with share her experiences as a beekeeper. Marjean has operated with Chuck, her husband, between 1500 and 1700 colonies in seven counties in southern Minnesota. Last year Marjean & Chuck were honored by the Minnesota Department of Agriculture at the Capital for their work for the environment and pollinators. Two and a half years ago, the Hendryckses sold the majority of their business, keeping 10% of the colonies. Over the past 11 years, Marjean is a migratory beekeeper. The hives spend spring thru fall in Minnesota then go the California for the winter and almond pollination followed by a short stay in Texas where the losses are remade, then back to Minnesota for honey production. Marjean says, “The work and keeping bees healthy in an unhealthy environment has not been an easy venture but there has been the reward of producing a beautiful product and offering the landscape the benefit of pollinators by the millions.”

Aug 21 Historic Kiesling House - The New Ulm Battery
The public is invited to come to the Historic Kiesling House to see the New Ulm Battery on Sunday, August 21. Members of the New Ulm Battery will interact with the audience and share the history of the organization and tell about the cannon which will be on display on the grounds at the Historic Kiesling House Following the US-Dakota War of late summer 1862, the Minnesota Civilian Militia Act authorized the formation of an artillery unit to protect New Ulm against future Dakota attacks. Those attacks never came; but the City continued to maintain the Battery up to present day. The Battery was originally formed as a military unit to engage in combat, but it enjoys the reputation of “never having fired a shot in anger”. The Battery stands as a symbol for the city of New Ulm and is used extensively for dedications, parades and educational purposes.
