Apr 4 Syttende Deutsche Auditions

Seasoned and budding performers alike are invited to bring their talents to New Ulm to audition for SYTTENDE DEUTSCHE, a German spoof of the Hanska variety show Syttende Mai. "If you have the talent, we're willing to have you in the show as long as its family-friendly," said Michael Koester, the show’s director. Come prepared to act, sing, dance, speak, perform or do whatever you think people will enjoy for the variety show. Auditions will be held from 6-8 pm on Tuesday, April 4 at the historic State Street Theater, 1 North State Street, New Ulm.

Auditions are open to young, old, or somewhere in between (that includes you). Acts should be brief, self-contained and entertaining. "The variety show gives people an opportunity to do something fun in a friendly environment," Koester said. "Everything is fair game. People have all kinds of hidden talent."

Performances will be held May 5-7. All acts are expected to be on stage for all three performances. For more information, visit www.statestreetnewulm.org or call 507-359-9990. Join us to decide what’s wurst … Sauerkraut or Lutefisk?

Welcome to the Party: Turning Newcomers Into Neighbors
Thursday, April 6
5:30 PM
New Ulm Country Club

Complimenting New Ulm’s motto of “Germans Have More Fun”, you are invited to attend “Welcome to the Party! Turning Newcomers into Neighbors”This 3rd annual event is for all New Ulm area residents who have moved to the community recently, and those who want to welcome newcomers to town.

The event starts at 5:30 pm.  Help yourself to the hamburger and brat buffet (included in your ticket) and find a seat.  Table mentors will facilitate conversation at each table.  There will also be opportunities to learn more about the history of New Ulm, the festivals, a session of 'speed networking', and a few other tips for living and working in the New Ulm area.  Door prizes will be drawn throughout the evening and each attendee will receive a swag bag.

This event is hosted by the New Ulm H.Y.P.E. (Helping Young Professionals Evolve) Group, and is sponsored by various local businesses (see www.newulm.com/newcomers).  These groups want to come together to make sure that people of all ages who are new to New Ulm don't feel like "Auslanders" (German word for foreigners).  Come meet some friendly new faces and learn more about our community!

Apr 28 Chamber Member MnDOT Open House
Summer Construction on Broadway
This summer (and in 2018-19 also but let's not get too ahead of ourselves!) we'll have lots of road construction in New Ulm all along Broadway and businesses need to be thinking about:
  • Will this construction affect how my customers find me?
  • How can I increase my visibility as a business during the construction?
  • How will I train my staff and employees to respond to the construction and possible concerns or complaints about it.
All Chamber Members are invited to an open house with MnDOT on Friday, April 28 from 8:00-9:00 a.m. at the Best Western Plus to learn more about the projects of 2017.  Please RSVP to the Chamber if you plan on coming - refreshments will be provided and we want to make sure we have enough!
