Quiltistry in New Ulm
Quilting is BIG in New Ulm! With three quilt shops in town, quilting and the needle arts are alive and well in New Ulm. Join us from 9 am - 5 pm for the third bi-annual Quilistry event! This day celebrates the artistic expression of quilts both past and present at various historic sites throughout the city.
-Bed Turning at the Wanda Gag House, 226 N. Washington St., 11 am & 2 pm. This restored 1894 Queen Anne style house is the home of internationally aclaimed artists and printmaker, Wanda gag. Exhibits within the home include oil paintings by father, Anton, and watercolors by sister, Flavia.
-Quilting Demonstrations and quilts available for viewing at the Grand Center for Arts & Culture, located in New Ulm's first hotel, built in 1856, at 208 N. Minnesota St.
-Visit each of the three unique quilt shops located within the city. Each shop will have on-site demonstrations, refreshments, and door-prizes. New Ulm is proud to be home to Sewing Seeds Quilt COmpany, recently recognized as one of ten shops across the US and Canada to be featured in the 2015 Quilt Sampler Magazine by Better Homes and Gardens.
-Additional indoor and outdoor quilt displays will be at various sites throughout the city. your detailed map will be available at Sewing Seeds Quilt Company, Spinning Spools Quilt Shops, The Thimble Box, and the New Ulm Chamber Office. Outdoor exhibits will be weather permitting.
The Quiltistry event is free and open to the public. We encourage you to experience New Ulm through its rich heritage and historic beauty! This event is being sponsored by KNUJ Radio, New Ulm Chamber of Commerce, Sewing Seeds Quilt Company, Spinning Spools Quilt Shop, and The Thimble Box.
