Local historian John LaBatte will present “Fort Ridgely” at the Minnesota Valley Civil War Round Table. Fort Ridgely was built in 1853 as a police station to keep peace as settlers poured into the former Dakota lands. It withstood several attacks in the U.S.-Dakota War of 1862 and became a training ground for Civil War recruits. The Minnesota Valley Civil War Round Table series is presented the third Tuesday of each month at 6:30 p.m. at New Ulm Public Library and is free and open to the public. Please call 507-359-8334 for more information.
