The library is pleased to welcome the talents of Dick Kimmel, Lori Jean, and Tony Rook to the library on Thursday, May 5. Dick, Lori, and Tony will share the process of writing songs as well as perform several original compositions. Dick Kimmel will be your host for the evening. Dick is a bluegrass, folk, and old-time stringband musician from New Ulm. Dick has written and recorded his songs for more than 50 years leading to three music halls of fame inductions. Dick has conducted songwriting workshops for festivals and other events. Dick is currently recording an album of original mandolin instrumentals. For additional information see www.dickkimmel.com. Lori Jean is a New Ulm native who studied music at Minnesota State University - Mankato before transferring to St Katherine's University. Last year she released her debut CD of her original songs, which has been very well received. Lori plays modern music which ranges from pop to folk. In addition to singing, Lori plays guitar and piano. Lori's current project is writing songs with lyrics relating to classic literature. Tony's original songs run from modern country to modern bluegrass. At the 150th Civil War program in New Ulm in 2014, the Mankato Free Press reported that Tony's Civil War based song, "Lauralee" was the highlight of the event. Tony is a vocalist who plays guitar and banjo. A recording of Tony's original songs is planned for release in March.
