Making Sausage at Historic Kiesling House
Learn how to make sausage the old-fashioned way at Historic Kiesling House. Experience the various processes involved in making sausage. Visitors are invited to help grind the meat and stuff the casings for the sausage. See the equipment used to make sausage before modernization and mass production took over food production. Also explore the past at Historic Kiesling House constructed in 1861; it survived the US - Dakota War of 1862 and is the only wood-framed house from that era remaining in Brown County. Learn about, Friedrich and Caroline Kiesling, their family and their house. Learn about early pioneer settlement, customs and traditions of area immigrants and events, like the US-Dakota War of 1862, that shaped New Ulm. Examine the development of community and influence of social and political issues on residents that lived in this area of Minnesota.
