Lunch and a Bite of History Speaker Series
The Brown County Historical Society (BCHS) is spearheading a number of events to commemorate the 153rd anniversary of the U.S.-Dakota War the week of August 17. Confirm programs at 507-233-2620 or www.browncountyhistorymn.org. The Brown County Historical Society Museum and Annex are located at 2 N. Broadway in New Ulm. The Lunch and a Bite of History speaker series is August 17 through August 21. All programs are at the Brown County Historical Society Museum Annex unless otherwise noted.
All speaker programs are free and open to the public; seating is first come first served. They are made possible by a grant provided by the Traverse des Sioux Library Cooperative and were funded in part with money from Minnesota's Arts and Cultural Heritage Fund.
- Monday, August 17 at 12 p.m. - Curtis Dahlin, Calamity at Lake Shetek: The Death of a Settlement.
- Tuesday, August 18 at 1 p.m. at Springfield Historical Museum (11 W. Central) - Janet Timmerman, The Shetek Trail. Program partners: Springfield Area Historical Society and Springfield Public Library. Note special time and location.
- Wednesday, August 19 at 12 p.m. - Jeff Williamson, Thomas and John Williamson and the U.S.-Dakota War of 1862.
- Thursday, August 20 at 12 p.m. - Mary Bakeman, Rebuilding Family, Rebuilding Lives: Widows and Orphans of the War.
- Friday, August 21 at 12 p.m. - Anne Earl and Bob Burgess, After the War: Depredation Claims.
