This is a lifeguard class for first time participants. Participants must successfully pass a pre-course physical fitness test consisting of: *300 yard swim using front crawl or breaststroke *Tread water for 2 minutes without using hands *Swim 20 yards, retrieve a brick from 7-10 feet of water, swim 20 yards back to the wall with the brick and get out of the pool without using the stairs, steps or ladder within 1 minute and 40 seconds. Course work will include learning how to recognize hazardous and emergency situations, first aid, surveillance skills, rescue skills, CPR and AED skills, spinal injury management, how to prevent injuries and implementing the emergency action plan. There will be 3 final skill scenarios to successfully complete and 2 written exams that require a score of 80% or higher to pass the class. Upon completion, a certificate will be issued fro Lifeguarding/CPR/First Aid which will be valid for 2 years.
