The public is invited to a book discussion hosted by the New Ulm League of Women Voters and New Ulm Public Library on Monday, February 19 at 6:30 p.m. at the library, 17 N. Broadway.
League member and Library Director Kris Wiley will facilitate the discussion, which will focus on the book “The Broken Ladder: How Inequality Affects the Way We Think, Live, and Die” by Dr. Keith Payne. About the book, from the publisher: “The levels of inequality in the world today are on a scale that have not been seen in our lifetimes, yet the disparity between rich and poor has ramifications that extend far beyond mere financial means. Psychologist Keith Payne examines how inequality divides us not just economically; it also has profound consequences for how we think, how we respond to stress, how our immune systems function, and even how we view moral concepts such as justice and fairness.”
