Dr. Joachim "Yogi" Reppmann will discuss the European 1848ers on Thursday, November 20 at 6 p.m. at New Ulm Public Library. After unsuccessfully fighting for liberty, democracy, and national unity in Germany and other parts of Europe, the 'Forty-eighters' brought their considerable talents to America during the late 1840s and early 1850s. Dr. Reppmann will discuss the Forty-eighters' impact on the political and social history of America during one of its most critical periods, as well as the ways their movement continues to shape America?s immigration landscape today. Dr. Reppmann is Executive Director of the Stoltenberg Institute, whose goal is to preserve the history of the Forty-eighter immigrant group. For more information, visit www.moin-moin.us. This event, which is free and open to the public, is made possible by a grant provided by the Traverse des Sioux Library Cooperative and was funded in part or in whole with money from Minnesota's Arts and Cultural Heritage Fund.
