On Monday, August 17 at 6 p.m. at New Ulm Public Library (17 N. Broadway), representatives of the Lower Sioux Indian Community will present "Dakota Traditional Form of Government," an hour-long program on traditional and contemporary tribal government. Historical perspective on Dakota government practices and treaties as well as information about today's Dakota tribal government structure will be covered. This program, part of the 153rd commemoration of the U.S.-Dakota War, is co-sponsored by the Brown County Historical Society. It is free and open to the public; seating is first come first served. It is made possible by a grant provided by the Traverse des Sioux Library Cooperative and was funded in part with money from Minnesota's Arts and Cultural Heritage Fund.
